A Global Comms Leader Helping Organisations In The UK And Africa Communicate For Impact.

Hi guys!

While reading this post today, I’m sure some of us would be wondering why I still keep a journal (some will call it a diary), in this time and age. But, like my father, I like to still remain in the past with some things like putting my thoughts down on paper. It helps me communicate better with myself and with God. I know I might sound crazy! lol! but let’s just get into the post for today!

For those of us, that still keep or kept diaries, don’t you just love reading past entries in your diaries? I used to hate doing it. In fact I dreaded it, till today.

I haven’t written in my journal in quite a while till my cousin reminded me of it’s existence, today. I sat down with it and decided to go through my past entries and I realized how much my life has changed.

You know how, when you ask God for things and unknowingly forget when they finally happen? Well, my journal reminded me of a lot of things that have come to pass that I used to pray so hard for. I read so many things in shock and amazement as to how much I have grown and how God has answered a lot of my prayers!

One entry that stuck with me was an entry I wrote at the beginning of 2013 and I’ll share it with you guys. It was an awakening from something I went through in March 2012 and I know it might touch a few of my readers. Enjoy:

“Life has its ups and downs
In its surprises we drown
but living in Christ
makes you from the disappointments rise
March 2012 was hell
even if I looked happy, you could tell
that my heart was torn apart
and I couldn’t turn to anyone, not even a rat
My life has changed drastically since then
2013 brought a new hope and faith, brethren,
don’t give up on God, cause he won’t give up on you … “

This entry, was when I felt like I could genuinely go out into the world and spread God’s word and works in my life. Most of us know that I used to be very shy, but a lot has changed in the past few years and I feel like all of my experiences, everything I’ve been through has been preparing me for my purpose and I’m so excited to follow my journey and see where the good Lord is taking me.

(I found myself humming to Alicia Keys’ Brand new me as I was writing this part of the post! lol!)

Most of us might be wondering what the purpose of today’s post is. Honestly, even I have no idea, but I guess I could say to us that we should not get too busy with living our lives. We should sometimes take time out to evaluate our journey, see how far we have come, see what we can improve on, what we can change and obviously give thanks to The One we deserves all the praise.

I gathered a few quotes from some people, on looking back, and thought to share it with you guys, so we can all reflect. I hope you learn a thing or two from them like I did. Enjoy:

“They say to never look back. But sometimes I do. It’s gratifying to see how far I’ve come.” ― Richelle E. Goodrich

“We’re so wrapped up with egotistical things, career, family, having enough money, meeting the mortgage, getting a new car, fixing the radiator when it breaks—we’re involved in trillions of little acts just to keep going. So we don’t get into the habit of standing back and looking at our lives and saying, Is this all? Is this all I want? Is something missing?” ― Mitch Albom

“I’ve learned that God sometimes allows us to find ourselves in a place where we want something so bad that we can’t see past it. Sometimes we can’t even see God because of it. When we want something so bad, it’s easy to mistake what we truly need for the thing we really want. When this sort of thing happens, and it seems to happen to everyone, I’ve found it’s because what God has for us is obscured from view, just around another bend in the road.
In the Bible, the people following God had the same problem I did. They swapped the real thing for an image of the real thing. We target the wrong thing and our misdirected life’s goal ends up looking like a girl or a wide-brimmed hat or a golden calf. All along, what God really wants for us is something much different, something more tailored for us.

And when each of us looks back at all the turns and folds God has allowed in our lives, I don’t think it looks like a series of folded-overs that have shaped our lives. Instead I think we’ll conclude in the end that maybe we’re all a little like human origami and the more creases we have, the better.” ― Bob Goff

“It’s funny. Looking back, none of it seems to matter now, those moments of yearning, craving to belong with people I thought mattered. No more fragments of glass, pieces of a broken mirror you can’t put back together and wouldn’t want to even if you could.” ― Rebecca Harris

“Every moment is precious, even the ones behind me that I often reflect upon with a reserved smile. However…I seldom look back, only forward in anticipation of the next greater now.” ― Carl Henegan

“What if I can’t turn my head? I can look in any direction by turning my wheelchair, and I choose to look back. Rodman to the contrary notwithstanding, that is the only direction we can learn from.” ― Wallace Stegner

“One of the most positive things that has come of that communication is I have been able to see how much I have grown. When I listened to them tell me things they saw in me back then I was amazed. I didn’t see those things then. Not at all. And I can see them today.” ― Paula Heller Garland

“It isn’t as important to feel great about all the things we do. But how we feel toward the end when we look back at everything we’ve done.” ― Jessica Sorensen

It wouldn’t make any sense living your life like a robot because it’s the only one you have to live. Why not live it well?

I love you guys!

Cheers!
