There’s a bittersweet feeling that comes with writing this. Last month, the world lost a special person, Jennifer, or “Jay” as I used to call her. We met in the awkward, unforgettable years of high school – fourteen years old, navigating our first year of senior secondary school. Somehow, our paths crossed, and a friendship blossomed that would last for well over a decade.

Jennifer wasn’t just a friend; she was an angel. To call her kind would be an understatement. Her smile could light up a room, and her genuine warmth made you feel instantly welcome. It’s no wonder everyone who spoke at her memorial service in Canada echoed the same sentiment. Even though life took us down different paths in recent years, the memories we made together remain precious.

I remember that quirky blog we started together. We called it “JK” – a combination of our initials. It was a space where we poured our teenage hearts out, dissecting the latest music and pondering all sorts of random gist. It was innocent, creative, and a testament to the deep bond we shared.

Distance and busy lives inevitably put a strain on things, but the core of our friendship remained. The foundation we built in those formative years was strong, and the memories we shared echo in my heart.

Today, as I write this with a tear in my eye and a smile on my lips, my thoughts are with Jennifer’s husband, parents, siblings, her beautiful daughter, and extended family who loved her dearly. May you find comfort in the memories you hold close and the love that surrounds you.

Jay Kay, Seven Eleven! Our nicknames for each other. Here we are at prom where Jennifer won the coveted “Prom Queen” title.

Jennifer, Jay, Jennoti, our prom queen, this is for you. May your soul find peace, and may your light continue to shine in the hearts of everyone who knew you.

Rest easy, my friend.
