My pick of a definition of news is the definition given by the Merriam-Webster dictionary. News is ‘new information or a report about something that has happened recently’.

I find this definition to be a good one because if something isn’t recent, it is not news. If it isn’t ‘new’, it is not news. It is any information reported in newspapers, magazines, on television or on the internet about something exciting and current. News is up-to-date,recent and contemporary.

  1. Interesting…what about when someone reports on a historical event? E.g. an anniversary of something?
